Highbury Centre Drone Survey, London

The Highbury Centre in London contacted Exall Group after pieces of mortar began breaking away from the chimney stacks and falling onto the roof below. Rather than commission scaffolding or a cherry picker to inspect a roof of this height, we deployed a drone survey to capture every elevation in high resolution without working at height.

The survey confirmed the client's concerns and uncovered further defects. The mortar flaunching on top of the chimney stacks was badly cracked, and pointing had come loose around the lead flashings where the chimneys meet the main roof. Both defects allow water to track into the structure and accelerate failure if left untreated.

The drone footage also revealed exposed timber work around the rooflight upstands, along with cracked, broken and missing slates across several roof slopes — all consistent with general age-related deterioration.

The client received a full written report supported by annotated high-resolution imagery, giving them a clear evidence base to plan repairs and prioritise budget.
